Are you getting a lot of use out of the kitchen at your community of apartments on East Riverside? We want residents to love every part of their apartment, and a big reason people don’t like their kitchens is because they don’t like cooking. We get that —sometimes it’s way more fun to order a pizza than it is to slave over the stove all evening. On the other hand, it’s a lot easier to save money when you enjoy cooking for yourself. With that in mind, the Ellie staff has put together a list of tips for cooking the simplest meals. Once you master these easy meals, you’ll have the tools and know-how to move on to more complicated recipes.
In the list below, you’ll find suggestions for improving the simple meals that you used to make when you were a kid. If you’re trying to get back into cooking, it’s best to start with the meals you already know how to make. By making some of the recipes below, you can turn your childhood meals into adult-ready recipes. Ready to dive into the list of tips? Let’s get started. When you’re done reading this post, please be sure to share the link with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments on East Oltorf!
Tips for Improving Mac & Cheese
Believe it or not, you can easily turn boxed mac and cheese into a gourmet meal. The first thing you need to do is stop using regular milk and start using heavy whipping cream. The best mac and cheese is the creamiest mac & cheese. Next, start adding breadcrumbs to the top of your mac and cheese and baking it in the oven after you boil it on the stove. The extra cooking time is worth it, we swear. Lastly, try adding green chiles or jalapenos to your mac and cheese for a nice kick!
Tips for Improving Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Although the entire recipe for making this dish is contained in the name, we think you should expand your ingredient list beyond bread and cheese. Try adding bacon and sun-dried tomatoes to your sandwich, or switching up the kind of bread you use. Sourdough is always a good bet! As for the actual preparation, we’ve heard that putting mayonnaise on the grilled side of your grilled cheese will give it a nice charred texture. Also, consider sprinkling some parmesan on the bread before toasting it to add some extra crunch.
Tips for Improving Peanut Butter & Jelly
This classic kids meal doesn’t have to remain in your past. You can actually make them a lot healthier by adding real fruit to whatever kind of jelly you’re putting on your sandwich.Slice up some fresh strawberries, blueberries or raspberries and throw them on your PB&J next time you need a somewhat healthy snack. If you want to add some crunch, add Honey Nut Cheerios or your favorite nuts.
